CITY OF HUNTINGTON BEACH SUPPORTING THE
DISNEY CLASSIC WEEK CONCEPT AND THE EFFORTS
OF THE SPONSORS TO CONVINCE DIVISION I
COLLEGE AND UNIVERSITY PRESIDENTS TO
SUPPORT THE EVENT
WHEREAS, the Walt Disney Company, the Los Angeles Times and ABC
Television have proposed to co-sponsor a "Disney Classic Week" that would take place
each January in Orange County; and

"The Disney Classic" program and recognizes the positive impact such an event would
bring to the City of Huntington Beach and the county of Orange; and
The City of Huntington Beach acknowledges the goals of"The Disney Classic"
in its effort to salute "excellence" in our university system by staging a program of
academics, arts and athletics, and encourages support for the event; and
Chapman University estimates that the Disney Classic Week activities could
generate a minimum of $125 million to the Orange County economy as well as national
exposure of our abundant vacation amenities; and
The week would conclude with a national collegiate football championship game
between the top seeded college football teams in the country; and
The Disney Classic Week would celebrate university excellence in academics,
the arts and athletics among the nation's 106 Division I colleges and universities; and
The Disney Classic Week also represents an opportunity to showcase Orange
County and its many arts venues and attractions through coverage by the national
media that would be generated by such an event; and
The City of Huntington Beach recognizes the importance of higher education to
the well-being of our nation, and believe that"The Disney Classic" is an excellent way

to recognize those young university men and women throughout our nation, for their
pursuit of excellence through education; and

The Disney Classic, an idea that the City of Huntington Beach applauds;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of
Huntington Beach that the City of Huntington Beach acknowledges and supports the

businesses to do likewise.
