A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL
OF THE CITY OF HUNTINGTON BEACH
URGING THE IMMEDIATE ENACTMENT OF ALL
"GET TOUGH ON CREVIE" BILLS
Whereas, the safety of Huntington Beach citizens is the number one priority and of
paramount importance to the Mayor and the City Council; and
The citizens of California voted that the State Constitution shall decree Public Safety to be
the first responsibility of local government; and
All crime has an adverse impact an our neighborhoods and affects citizens regardless of
race, age, gender, social status, political or religious affiliations, and causes immense human
suffering; and
The financial burden of crime is continuing to escalate and thereby seriously impacting
government budgets at all levels; and
In addition, the financial burden of crime and lengthy criminal justice proceedings are
overwhelming our resources and eroding confidence in government; and
The League of California Cities has taken a position on legislation to "get tough on crime"
as recommended by its Public Safety Committee; and
It is in the best interest of the citizens of the State of California to support these legislative
positions and encourage prompt action by our legislators in Sacramento resulting in completion
before the end of the 1993-1994 Legislative Session(ending September 1, 1994),
