HomeMy WebLinkAboutCity Council - 97-33 RESOLUTION No. 97-33 By the Huntington Beach City Council Huntington Youth Shelter and Family Resource Center A Program of Volunteers of America WHEREAS, The relationship between a city and its residents is a vital and interdependent one, deriving its strength from the quality of civic involvement and public spirit generated by an organization such as the Huntington Youth Shelter, and WHEREAS, The Huntington Youth Shelter and Family Resource Center is a non-profit organization whose purpose is to maintain a home like facility for at risk youth who are separated from their families; and WHEREAS, The Shelter facility has been provided by the City of Huntington Beach in the Huntington Central Park's historic Brook's House; and WHEREAS; The Shelter's services, such as temporary shelter, counseling, and case management are designed to assist youth in crisis, aged 11-17, and WHEREAS, A twenty-four hour "crisis line" provides support and council to youths and families and assists families in conflict mediation; and WHEREAS, The networking of the Shelter personnel with schools, law enforcement, churches, and Orange County Social Services provides an opportunity to reach youth in need; and WHEREAS, The Huntington Youth Shelter has proven to offer quality residential shelter care to protect runaway and homeless youth, youth in crisis, and their families by providing a structured "cooling off' period in a safe, supervised environment to help diffuse family conflict; to restore and foster self-worth and personal responsibility; to reunite families, and prevent future problems by early intervention and prevention; and WHEREAS, It is appropriate to underscore the positive impact that the Huntington Youth Shelter and Family Resource Center has on the local community; now therefore be it RESOLVED BY THE HUNTINGTON BEACH CITY COUNCIL, That the Huntington Youth Shelter an Family Resource Center fulfills a great need for the City of Huntington Beach and its youth and families and will continue to receive the unqualified support by the city that has been a tradition since its founding in 1993. PASSED AND ADOPTED by the City Council of the City of Huntington Beach at a regular meeting thereof held on the 16th day of June 1997.
