A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF HUNTINGTON BEACH DECLARING A GIFT OF PUBLIC FUNDS
FOR THE PUBLIC GOOD TO ESTABLISH A VETERANS' MEMORIAL
IN THE CITY OF HUNTINGTON BEACH
WHEREAS, the rememberance of the men and women of the United States Armed
Forces, who in the never ending pursuit to maintain the honor of the American People and the
dignity of all people, gave their most sacred gift, their own life, ensures that the freedom
available to each and every person living in the United States will be appreciated and
recognized; and
Commemorating the efforts of the United States Veterans who gave the ultimate
sacrifice, including many of the sons and daughters of the City of Huntington Beach and its
sister cities, affirms that their lives were not surrendered needlessly; and
The paying of homage by a community to its local heroes instills a sense of pride and
solidarity in that community; and
Funds have been donated to the City in the amount of$15,000 by James Ackerman for
the purpose of helping to establish a Veterans' Memorial at City Hall; and
Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 7368 is ready, willing and able to erect a Veterans'
Memorial on City Hall property for the enjoyment of the general public,
NOW, THEREFORE, the City Council of the City of Huntington Beach, does hereby
resolve as follows:
It is in the public interest and for public good to give to the Veterans of Foreign Wars
Post 7368 the sum of$15,000, previously given to the City by James Ackerman for the
purpose of establishing at City Hall a memorial to our fallen veterans.
PASSED AND ADOPTED by the City Council of the City of Huntington Beach at a
regular meeting thereof held on the 21st day of January

I, CONNIE BROCKWAY,the duly elected, qualified City Clerk of
the City of Huntington Beach, and ex-officio Clerk of the City Council of said City,
do hereby certify that the whole number of members of the City Council of the City
of Huntington Beach is seven; that the foregoing resolution was passed and adopted
by the affirmative vote of at least a majority of all the members of said City Council
at a regular meeting thereof held on the 21st day of January, 1997 by the following
vote:
AYES: Julien, Harman, Dettloff, Bauer, Sullivan
NOES: None
ABSENT: Green, Garofalo (out of room)
