HomeMy WebLinkAboutCity Council - 98-21 RESOLUTION NO. 98-21 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF HUNTINGTON BEACH SUPPORTING THE RENAMING OF THE WESTMINSTER HIGH SCHOOL STADIUM TO THE "WESTMINSTER BILL BOSWELL STADIUM" BY THE HUNTINGTON BEACH UNION HIGH SCHOOL DISTRICT WHEREAS, Bill Boswell was hired as the first head football coach at Westminster High School in 1959,. and continued in the post for 19 years compiling an overall record of 120-65-5; and Bill Boswell's teams were Sunset League Champions in 1963, 1964, 1968, 1971 and 1975; and During his 37 years of teaching and coaching, Bill Boswell coached Football, Basketball, Wrestling, Track, Baseball and golf, and used the slogan. "Scholars and Champions" throughout his coaching career as an expression of his dedication to scholarship, pride and winning; and Bill Boswell served as Westminster High School's Athletic Director for many years, and from 1982 until 1995 he served as the Athletic Director for the distinguished Huntington Beach Union High School District; and For the past 22 years, Bill Boswell has served on the Board of Directors of the National Football Foundation, whose primary purpose is to honor scholar athletes. He is a Past President of the California State Athletic Directors Association 1992-93 and also the Orange County Athletic Directors Association 1983-85; and t SF/s:SF-PCD:Resolutions:Boswc11 RLS 98-120 3/24/98-#2 98-21 Bill Boswell is continuing to serve the district by teaching the District Walk-on Coach Certification class, having now served the Huntington Beach Union High School District for almost 40 years. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, the Huntington Beach City Council wishes to acknowledge the many wonderful contributions of Bill Boswell and encourage the Huntington Beach Union High School District Board of Trustees to rename the Westminster High School stadium the "Westminster Bill Boswell Stadium" in honor of this very dedicated teacher and coach.
