A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF HUNTINGTON BEACH, CALIFORNIA,
APPROVING THE APPLICATION FOR GRANT FUNDS
UNDER THE CALIFORNIA DEPARTMENT OF BOATING
AND WATERWAYS' PUBLIC BEACH RESTORATION PROGRAM
FOR A FEASIBILITY STUDY
WHEREAS, the mission of the California Department of Boating and Waterways' Public
Beach Restoration Program is to preserve and protect the California coastline by restoring and
maintaining natural and recreational resources and minimizing damages by natural or man-made
induced beach erosion; and
The California Legislature appropriated $10,000,000 for the Public Beach Restoration
Program as part of the 2000-2001 fiscal year budget; and
The City of Huntington Beach has suffered severe beach sand loss in recent years, which
has resulted in the loss of recreational beach, damages to or destruction of beachfront facilities
and increased risk to beach patrons due to the exposure of underlying hard structures; and
The City of Huntington Beach has obtained the support of the United States Government
to conduct a U.S. Army Corps of Engineers' Reconnaissance Study to determine if the United
States Government, in partnership with the City of Huntington Beach Feasibility Study phase;
and
The United States Government has appropriated funds, under an Energy and Water
Appropriations Bill for fiscal year 2001 for the Feasibility Study of the City of Huntington Beach
in order to investigate the causes of the City's sand loss and options to correct the problem, with
the City required to fund one-half of the study's cost; and
The City of Huntington Beach wishes to apply for a grant from the California Department
of Boating and Waterways to pay a portion of the City's local share of the U.S. Army Corps of
Engineers' Feasibility Study.
NOW, THEREFORE, the City Council of the City of Huntington Beach hereby resolves
as follows:
SECTION 1. The City approves the filing of a grant application for funding for a U.S.
Army Corps of Engineers' Feasibility Study, under the California Department of Boating and
Waterways' Public Beach Restoration Program.
SECTION 2. The City agrees to enter into a cost sharing agreement for the Feasibility
Study with the California Department of Boating and Waterways.

SECTION 3. The City Council authorizes the City Engineer to act as the representative
of the City of Huntington Beach and to negotiate and execute all agreements necessary to
comply with the California Department of Boating and Waterways' grant requirements.
PASSED AND ADOPTED by the City Council of the City of Huntington Beach at a
regular meeting held thereof on the 7th day of May, , 2000.

I, CONNIE BROCKWAY, the duly elected, qualified City Clerk of
the City of Huntington Beach, and ex-officio Clerk of the City Council of said
City, do hereby certify that the whole number of members of the City Council
of the City of Huntington Beach is seven; that the foregoing resolution was
passed and adopted by the affirmative vote of at least a majority of all the
members of said City Council at a regular meeting thereof field on the 7th
day of May, 2001 by the following vote:
