A RESOLULTI0N OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF HUNTINGTON BEACH
CONDEMNING THE ATTACK ON THE UNITED STATES,
PRAISING RESPONDERS, AND CALLING FOR A
NATIONAL SECURITY SUMMIT
WHEREAS, horrific and cowardly acts of terrorism occurred in the United States the
week of September 11, 2001, with direct impacts on our nation's cities; and
The City Council and the citizens of Huntington Beach are shocked and saddened by
those acts; and
Our thoughts and prayers go out to the victims and their families; and
Together we support whatever it takes to punish those responsible for these heinous acts;
and
The City of Huntington Beach has moved quickly to increase security in our city and
protect our citizens.
NOW, THEREFORE, the City Council of the City of Huntington Beach does hereby
resolve that:
1. The City Council and the citizens of Huntington Beach applaud the selfless
heroism of the countless firefighters, police officers, rescue workers, members of the National
Guard, other public servants and volunteers across the country; and
2. We salute the leadership provided by Governor George Pataki, New York City
Mayor Rudy Giuliani, the New York State Legislature, Governor James Gilmore, District of
Columbia Mayor Anthony Williams, and other state, county and local officials; and
3. We urge everyone in this great country to donate blood in their community to
meet current and future emergency medical needs, and to coordinate offers of assistance with the
Federal Emergency Management Agency, as requested by New York City; and
4. We urge an unshaken respect and tolerance for the diversity of America's
residents, demonstrating our unity and support for each other especially during these incredibly
difficult times; and
5. We are all united as Americans behind President Bush and the Congress and we
commend their leadership and resolve in this time of crisis; and

6. The City of Huntington Beach intends to support the United States Conference of
Mayors' National Security Summit to address a broad array of issues, including airport service
and personnel security, emergency management and preparedness, building safety and water
system protection, and will seek active participation of this critical initiative.
PASSED AND ADOPTED by the City Council of the City of Huntington Beach at a
regular meeting thereof held on the 1st day of October 2001.

1, CONNIE BROCKWAY, the duly elected, qualified City Clerk of
the City of Huntington Beach, and ex-officio Clerk of the City Council of said
City, do hereby certify that the whole number of members of the City Council
of the City of Huntington Beach is seven; that the foregoing resolution was
passed and adopted by the affirmative vote of at least a majority of all the
members of said City Council at a regular meeting thereof held on the 1st
day of October, 2001 by the following vote:
AYES: Green, Boardman, Cook, Julien Houchen, Dettloff, Bauer
NOES: None
ABSENT: Garofalo
