A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF HUNTINGTON BEACH AMENDING THE
MEMORANDUM OF UNDERSTANDING BETWEEN THE
CITY AND THE SURF CITY LIFEGUARD EMPLOYEES'
ASSOCIATION, BY ADOPTING THE SIDE LETTER OF AGREEMENT
(REGARDING NUMBER OF PERMITTED WORK HOURS WITHIN A TWELVE-
MONTH PERIOD)
WHEREAS, on April 17, 2000, the City Council of Huntington Beach adopted
Resolution No. 2000-41 for the purpose of adopting the 2000/02 Memorandum of
Understanding (MOU) between the City and the Surf City Lifeguard Employees' Association
(SCLEA);
Subsequent to the adoption of the MOU, the City of Huntington Beach and SCLEA
agreed to changes, corrections, and clarifications to the MOU that are reflected in a Side
Letter of Agreement between the City of Huntington Beach and the SCLEA("Side Letter of
Agreement") attached hereto as Exhibit A and incorporated herein by this reference. The
Side Letter of Agreement pertains to a change in the number of permitted work hours within
a twelve-month period.
NOW, THEREFORE, IT IS HEREBY RESOLVED by the City Council of the City
of Huntington Beach as follows:
Section 1. The Side Letter of Agreement attached hereto as Exhibit A is approved
and adopted.
Section 2. The Side Letter of_Agreement amends the MOU between the City of
Huntington Beach and the SCLEA.
PASSED AND ADOPTED by the City Council of the City of Huntington Beach
at a regular meeting thereof held on the 19th day of August 2002

Side Letter of Agreement— 1500 Hours
Between the City of Huntington Beach
and the Surf City Lifeguard Employees' Association
Effective Date: August 6, 2002
This is to memorialize an Agreement between the City of Huntington
Beach and the Surf City Lifeguard Employees' Association (SCLEA) to reflect
agreed upon changes and clarifications to the existing 2000-2001 Memorandum-
of-Understanding.
This Agreement is to be incorporated into any future Memorandum-of-
Understanding between the City of Huntington Beach and the Surf City Lifeguard
Employees' Association.
Beginning August 6, 2002 Members of the Surf City Lifeguard Employees'
Association will be permitted to work up to one thousand five hundred (1500)
hours in a twelve (12) month period. The twelve (12) month period shall be a
rolling 12-month period, which means an Employee may not work more than
1,500 hours in the previous 12 months.
All other provisions of the Memorandum-of-Understanding not amended
by the above shall remain the same.
The terms and conditions of this side letter to the existing Memorandum-
of-Understanding are without force or effect, unless and until adopted and
approved by Resolution of the City Council of the City of Huntington Beach.

IN WITNESS WHEREOF, the parties hereto have executed this side letter
to the Memorandum-of-Understanding this 3161 day of July, 2002.

of the City of Huntington Beach, and ex-officio Clerk of the City Council of

Council of the City of Huntington Beach is seven; that the foregoing resolution
was passed and adopted by the affirmative vote of at least a majority of all the
members of said City Council at a regular meeting thereof held on the
19th day of August, 2002 by the following vote:
