A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF HUNTINGTON
BEACH EXPRESSING ITS SUPPORT AND APPRECIATION FOR THE MEMBERS
OF THE ARMED FORCES WHO ARE PARTICIPATING IN
OPERATION IRAQI FREEDOM AND OPERATION ENDURING FREEDOM
WHEREAS,the United States Armed Forces have been undertaking courageous
and determined operations as part of Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring
Freedom; and
! WHEREAS, the United States Armed Forces are performing their missions with
great courage and distinction in carrying out air, land, and sea attacks; and
WHEREAS, the ability of the Armed Forces to successfully perform their mission
requires the support of their nation, community, and families; and
WHEREAS, Yellow Ribbon America, a coalition organized by the California
Chapter of Young Americans for Freedom, an organization founded in 1960 has been
actively supporting our troops for over 40 years; and
WHEREAS, Yellow Ribbon America has requested that the city of Huntington
Beach demonstrate its support for the then and women serving as part of Operation Iraqi
Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom by hanging yellow ribbons on the antennas of
city-owned vehicles which will be supplied by Yellow Ribbon America; and
WHEREAS, Yellow Ribbon America will also provide a quantity of bumper
stickers for the public to use in displaying on their own personal vehicles;
NOW, THEREFORE, the City Council of the City of Huntington Beach does
hereby resolve as follows:
1. unequivocal support and appreciation to the members of the United
States Armed Forces serving in Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation
Enduring Freedom, who are carrying out their missions with excellence,
patriotism, and bravery; and
2. unequivocal support to the families of the United States military
personnel serving in Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring
Freedom, who are providing support and prayers for their loved ones
currently engaged in military operations; and
3. as a visual demonstration of this support, authorize the hanging of
ribbons provided by Yellow Ribbon America by all city departments on
city-owned vehicles; and
4. make available to the public upon request, bumper stickers supplied to
the city by Yellow Ribbon America as quantities last.

PASSED AND ADOPTED by the City Council of the City of Huntington Beach
at a regular meeting thereof held on the 21st day of April , 2003.

I, CONNIE BROCKWAY, the duly elected, qualified City Clerk
of the City of Huntington Beach, and ex-officio Clerk of the City Council of
said City, do hereby certify that the whole number of members of the City
Council of the City of Huntington Beach is seven; that the foregoing resolution
was passed and adopted by the affirmative vote of at least a majority of all the
members of said City Council at an regular meeting thereof held on the 213t
day of April, 2003 by the following vote:
AYES: Sullivan, Coerper, Green, Boardman, Houchen, Hardy
