A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF HUNTINGTON BEACH
OPPOSING THE RESTRUCTURE OF THE ORANGE COUNTY VECTOR CONTROL
BOARD OF TRUSTEES
WHEREAS, Orange County Vector Control District (hereinafter "OCVCD"), is a public
health agency, currently governed by a Board of Trustees with one member appointed by each of
the thirty-four city councils in the County, and one other member appointed by the Orange
County Board of Supervisors; and
Each of the 35 members bring individual experience, interest and background to the
Board of Trustees and exercise their independent judgment on behalf of the residents and
property owners as a whole; and
The members of the OCVCD Board of Trustees are active in their communities, therefore
the flow of information between OCVCD and the individual cities of Orange County is prompt
and unrestricted in both directions, continuing the success of the public health mission of the
OCVCD; and
The existing make-up of the OCVCD Board of Trustees has shown itself to be
accountable to all residents of Orange County, bringing the concerns of different communities to
the OCVCD and effectively directing its operations for fifty-eight years; and
Any reduction of the Vector Control Board would reduce the interaction and
communication along with representation between OCVCD and the communities it is charged to
protect, thereby reducing the effectiveness of the District's public health efforts,
NOW, THEREFORE, IT IS HEREBY RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of
Huntington Beach hereby expresses is strong opposition to a reduction in the size and level of
representation of the OCVCD Board of Trustees.
