Approximately 110 of the,190 acres are being serviced by the system, and an additional 110 acres of land,;caped improvements, requiring irr.gation, will be added to the park, thereby increasing the park size to roughly 300 acres. The present system consists of two on --.site wells, a g'anite lined res- ervoir pond, a pump station facility with two 60 horse power constant speed electric motors, one 50:,.p. constant speud electric motor and automatic irrigation controllers. Water is pumped, upon demand, from the wells into the pond. When the automatic controllers are activated, one,, two or all three pump station motors (depending a?on System pr.es- %ure) withdraw the necessary water directly from -the pond. The systen is not dependable, is insufficient about 5J% of the time and has proven to be costly (i.e., pump statioRi motors continue to burn out), there- fore, the City is seeking recov aendations on hove to improve the system. rr r Specific issues whip:_h should be addressed include: 1. What is cauaing the motor pump burnou'.s and how can it be correc°cea 2. How can the pump station motors be operated to allow for more flexi bility? 3. Would there be an advantage in replacing the electric motors with natural gas engines? 4, gow can the: suction side of the pump station be protected from drawing trash; alga:', pliant life and other disrupting materials? e t 5, is there a need for greater water storage capacity? 6. Is there a need to brand a roofed, ground level water storage tark in! leu of the pond? { Pagano, Inc. Request for Proposal June 1, 1983 k. Dear Don: In response to your request for proposal to prepare a study, analysis and recomnendation on how to improve the irrigation systeivi pump sta tion at Central Park, our office met with fir, Jim dunes to conduct a f_- fieldinspection of the existing pump station, The following items were. observed: Qv gall u a d i A. er ,l pump station appears to be ►deque4e an could be modified to ensure ei °'ient and dependable operation: 83 Existing pump controls will need to be modified or replaced as they do not appear to provide tte necessary control re- quired for the existing laod5cape, sprinkler system.
