This In a letter of understanding regarding the proposed
improvement of the delineation of the painted medi�an on
Facific Coast Highway 1jetween the Santa Ana River rnd Beach
Roulevard, It was proposed by Paul Cookf City Director of Public
Workst to C. G. Sorkp Caltrans District Traffic Engineert at ^
meeting on July 5? 1985, to Install cxiditicnal pavwwnt markcra
and channelizers at an estimated cost of $2S,006,tO,

1. The City will prepare the plans and administer the
contract under nncroach-raent permit at ite *;zpense.
2. The State will reimburse the City for tht: construction
costfi upon execution of a City/State co-operative &greczent to be
pr*pared by the State.
3. The City will maintain the pavement markers and
channolixers ht its expense,
Due to the many concerns of the past iiisto�ry and pub"icity of the
accidents cn thic two-mile section of PCH, Route 1 and the fears
of addiLional accidenta during the r.ura=-r months, there is a need
to do something no-w. Due to thq City's ability tn get the work
under contract in a minimum time, the intent of this letter ih to
injuc�-- the City to do the worx imnin-diately.
