Cook Department Public Works Date Prepared May 22, 1980 , 19 Backup Material Attached El Yes ❑ No Subject Installation of Asphalt Cap on Slater Avenue in various locations between Goth, ard Street and Newland Street MSC - 170 City Administrator's Comments Approve as Recommended APPROVED BY CITY COUNCIL CITY C Statement of Issue, Recommendation, Analysis, Funding Source, Alternative Actions: ( Statement of Issue Plans and Specifications and Notice Inviting Sealer: bids have been prepared for the installation of an asphalt cap over portions of Slater Avenue between Gothard Street and Newland Street in the City of Huntington Beach. Kecommendation Approve the plans and specifications and autorize the City Clerk to advertise for bids. Analysis The Department of Public Works maintains a Street Condition Inventory with notations of various types of maintenance needs, one of which is to place an asphalt cap or overlay over the existing street surface to add tr. the structural strength of the street section. Aging, traffic usage., and weather conditions have caused moderate to severe cracking and loss of surface fines which permit water penetration and accelerated deterioration of structural and appearance characteristics; and this street is too heavily travelled for a slurry treatment to be effective. The areas of proposed capping are those which have not been reconstructed nor capped by recent developments or cash contracts, and are basically various lengths of either north or south halves of the street. Funding Source Gas Tax F•.rnds, which have previously been approved as a part of the Capital Improvement Programs, will be used for the work which is estimated at $75,000.
