Cook, Director of Public Mork CAT T Purchase Pumping Unit for Newland Storm Drain Pump Stations CC-577 9imis of Ima, Reeomerrrndrtiun, Ans1 , FA bdwq Sours. Aftwnstfw Actiao, Aftwf~u: Or, - Statement of Issue: The existing pumping units at the Newland Pump Station cannot accommodate the design flows entering the station. Therefore a pumping unit with increased capacity is necessary to provide additional protection from flooding for the residents in the drainage area. Recommended Action: Approve the plans and specifications for the purchase of a pumping unit for the Newland Storm Drain Pump Station and authorize the call for bids. Analysis: During the winter rains, extremely high water levels are experienced at the Newland Pump Station. This causes the water to hack up into thes'atreets and flooding to occur in some portions of the rrainage area. In'order to lower the water level, additional pumping capacity is needed. The City's Master Plan of Storm Drains indicates that the existing pump station is 631 deficient. This new pumping unit will replace 15 year old pumping equipment and will significantly increase the capacity of the station. It is imperati.ve that the pump, gear drive and engines be ordered at this time because the equipment delivery time is estimated to be nine months. The increased pumping capacity will then be available for next year's rainy season. Alternatives: 1. Do not purchase the new pumping equipment. This would leave portions of the drainage area subject to flooding. 2. Postpone the purchase of the pumping equipment to a later date. Because of delivery time, thin will not allow sufficient time to install the the pumping unit prior to next year's rainy season. Fungi: This is a Council approved budgeted project and is estimated to cost $186,000, it is financed from City Drainage District 7N and the account number is 825770.
