" a ANALYSIS:
City of Hunt:-Igton Beach Well 1k1 needs rehabilitation due to sand production problems
caused by corrosion of the Well casing. In the past this problem was remedied by drilling
a new well. The cost of drilling a new well can vary between $70,000- 100,000. The
attached agreement authorizes Orange County Water District to work in conjunoi:iar,with'
� czf- the City in rehabilitating this well. OCWD will provide the engineering design services
necessary to perform a new technique in deteriorated well casing rehabilitation.
Rehabilitation generally consists of inserting a pre-formed using inside the existing
r, F deteriorated casing-The city will contribute up to $40,000 in materials and labor. The
t County's cost for engineering design services is estimated to be'$10-15,000. This
a =`,} .•" technique is relatively new and has been successful in other cities in the country. OCWD
is currently planning a similar project with the City of Fullerton. If the rehabilitation
technique proves successful,a new well will iot,be necessary. Without the rehabilitation,
anew well must be drilled. We can expect to save approximately $30,000-60,000 over the
cost of a new well with this technique.

Documents will be transmitted to CITY for its advisory review
and comments.
