It has now become apparent that the old City Nall building should be deawolished and that the present is probably the best time to bring this project to completion. A. Reasons why subject building should be demolished: 1 . It has been apparent for a numtrer of years that the subject building was in the dangerous building category as defined by City ordinance. This was re• affirard In January, 1973 !)y our own building departnant and the City was Informed at that time that the problem should be solved iemadiately ( See attached memorandum) . 2. It was previously estinatad that the project would cost in the neighborhood of $ky - 509000 to accomplish. This was based on estimates provided by an established demolition contractor. because of the present economic condition It would appoar that the present is the best time to proceed kith demolition. This has barn amply demonstrated by the bids received - law bid being $4.780;00. . Exposure to liability continues to exist merely by the City permitting the building to stand. There have been several occasion4 where the building has bow brc*en Into and, in at least one lristanre, an attempt was Rode to set. fire to the kui 1dIng. y. use of the 'dange rows building" situation It wou 1 d not be feasible to re- occupy the building. §.
