STATkMENT"OF ISSUE: The Cacmiunity. Services-and Public Works Departments request authorization to seek bids for the "construction of' a parking lot adjacent to the City Gymnasium. RECOMMENDATIONS: 1. Approve the plans and specifications for the construction of the par]c' lot. 2. Authorize the Director of Public Works to -seek construction bids. 3. Approve the Negative Declaration for the project. 4. Approve an appropriation of $24,000 from the Park Acquisition and Development Fund. ANALYSIS: Contanuang construction of new housing in the townlot area has resulted in increased .use of the City. Gymnasium. To adequately accamodate .this increase, a parking lot adjacent to iuin the Gym is needed. In anticipation of this need, the Canity Services Department made application in 1979 and 1980 for funding assistance from the Roberti-Z'berg Urban Open Space and Recreational Program. The assistance included $35,526 to offset the costs of purchasing additional land and $26,089 for .construction expenses. The additional land has been purchased and plans and specifications, ccoplet:ed in-house, are ready for Council `= approval. The new lot, at the southwesterly corner of Palm Avenue and Sixteenth Street, will provide 21 additional parking spaces. Negative Declaration 81-17 wau published and posted for a .10 day public review. No public cacments were received nor were any significant adverse environmental impacts evident during a review of the project by the Environmental Review Catmittee. FUNDING SOURCE: 1.
