ENGLE, DIRECTOR, COMMUNITY SERVIC SUBJECT: APPROVE APPOINTMENTS TO THE COMMUNIT ERVICES COMMISSION Statement of Issue, Funding Source, Recommended Action, Alternative Action(s), Analysis, Environmental Status, Attachment(s) Statement of Issue: There is a need to fill three vacancies on the Community Services Commission. Funding Source: Not applicable. Recommended Action: Motion to: 1. Accept the resignations of Dr. David Bloom, Buddy Roberts and Barbara Steel from the Community Services Commission, and 2. Approve the appointments of Dominic "Nick" Tomaino and Brian Rechsteiner for a term each, to expire July 1, 2013, as recommended by Council Liaisons Joe Carchio, Cathy Green, and Don Hansen, and 3. Advertise and continue to accept applications for the remaining vacancy and provide said applications to liaisons for recommendation to Commission at a later date. Alternative Action: Do not make appointments to the Community Services Commission at this time and advise staff accordingly. Analysis: There are currently three member -at -large vacancies on the Community Services Commission as the result of the term limits of Dr. David Bloom, Buddy Roberts and Barbara Steel. The vacancies for the Community Services Commission were posted on the city website, City Hall)and the libraries. REQUEST FOR CITY COUNCIL ACTION MEETING DATE: 9/8/2009 DEPARTMENT ID NUMBER: CS 09-007 The two proposed candidates were reviewed by the Council liaisons and their qualifications are deemed suitable for the Community Services Commission. The candidates demonstrated a committed interest in the city's parks, beach, and recreation programs. 1. Dominic "Nick" Tomaino previously served on the Community Services Commission for over six years from 1999 to 2006. Nick served as chair of the commission six of those years, from 2001 to 2006. Because of past experience and knowledge of the Community Services programs and city process, Nick will be an asset to the Commission; therefore, staff recommends Council approval. 2. Brian Rechsteiner previously served on the Community Services Commission for eight years from 2000 to 2008 as the school board representative for Huntington Beach City School District. Because of past experience and knowledge of the Community Services programs and city process, Brian will be an asset to the Commission; therefore, staff recommends Council approval.
