These appointments fill the two vacancies due to the term-out of two Environmental Board members. These appointments are recommended by City Council liaisons Jill Hardy and Devin Dwyer. Funding Source: Not applicable. Recommended Action: Motion to: "Approve the appointments of Sue Gordon and Bo Glover to the Environmental Board for a first term to expire June 30, 2013 as recommended by City Council liaisons Hardy and Dwyer." K-� REQUEST FOR ACTION MEETING DATE: 3/16/2009 DEPARTMENT ID NUMBER:PL09-07 Alternative Action(s): The City Council may make the following alternative motion(s): 1. "Deny the appointments of Sue Gordon and Bo Glover to the Environmental Board and direct staff to re-advertise the vacancies." 2."Continue the recommended action to appoint new two members to the Environmental Board and direct staff accordingly." Analysis: The Environmental Board currently has two vacancies due to the term-out of two members, both having served two consecutive terms. Recommended for appointment are Sue Gordon and Bo Glover. Ms. Gordon is the Vice President of Environmental & Public Affairs for Rainbow Disposal. She has a Masters Degree in Public Administration from California State University at Long Beach. Her professional experience includes 18 years working with the County of Orange Integrated Waste Management Department. She developed and administered the Countywide Integrated Waste Management Plan. Mr. Glover is the Executive Director of the Nature Center in Newport Beach, a licensed LEED professional and a graduate from Villanova University. He is a member of the Society for Ecological Restoration and member of the California Regional Environmental Education Coordinators Region 9B Advisory Council. After careful consideration, the City Council liaisons selected and recommend Sue Gordon and Bo Glover to the Environmental Board. Strategic Plan Goal: Engaging the Community Increase community involvement dialogue, and outreach by educating residents about opportunities for involvement such as how to donate to projects, volunteer, access information, and other options through the website and other means. The Environmental Board continues to provide opportunities for civic minded citizens to become involved in various environmental issues. I have a broad understanding of environmental issues and how those issues interact and interrelate to the needs and concerns of Huntington Beach. My background in public information helps me understand public concerns and how to best address them. My specific background in solid waste planning, recycling and household hazardous waste programs can help me understand issues that come before the Board for discussion and resolution. My experience working with commissions will help me with my work on the Environmental Board if I am selected to serve. Why Do You Wish to Serve on a Volunteer Citizen's Body? I have lived in Huntington Beach for over 7 years and have worked here for over 1 1/2 years. I love this city and wish to be more involved in how it operates. I am motivated to work in the best interest of my community as a result of my participation in the Robert Mayer Leadership Academy. It is time to give back.
