Funding Source: Not Applicable. Recommended Action: Motion to: Appoint Faith Vogel for a partial 4-year term (07/01/07-06/30/11) to the Library Board of Trustees, filling the open seat left vacant by the resignation of Harold Hall, as recommended by the City Council Library liaisons, Gil Coerper and Joseph Carchio. Alternative Action(s): Consider alternative appointments. REQUEST FOR CITY COUNCIL ACTION MEETING DATE: 4/6/2009 DEPARTMENT ID NUMBER: LS 09-01 Analysis: Due to the resignation of Harold Hall during his term of office, a vacancy was created on the Library Board of Trustees. City Council members Gil Coerper and Joseph Carchio, liaisons to the Library Board of Trustees, met with Stephanie Beverage, Director of Library Services to review applications of the candidates, selecting Faith Vogel from the available applicants. Ms. Vogel is a resident of Huntington Beach with a Masters in Library Sciences and extensive experience working in and with Southern California library systems. Strategic Plan Goal: Improve internal and external communication — Increase community involvement, dialogue, and outreach by educating residents about opportunities for involvement such as how to donate to projects, volunteer, access information, and offer opinions through the website and other means. I have worked in the Library field continuously at the Department of Veterans Affairs. Professional Licenses and/or Associations Master of Library Science - Immaculate Heart Medical Library Certification Course - UCLA Professional Experience I was responible for Library Services in three different VA Libraries, including Sepulveda, West Los Angeles, and Long Beach. I have developed programs and prepared budgets and worked with Library professionals and technicians. I served as the VISN librarian for the VA Desert Pacific Network serving all of Southern California and Las Vegas. Special Knowledge or Skill I was the national leader in the VA on virtual reference, establishing a VA wide task force and implementing the program. I have also been the Chair of the VA Library Automation Council. My interest has been in the area of Library Automation, and I instituted an online public access catalog for the network in 1984.
