Statement of Issue: An appointment to the Library Board of Trustees must be approved by
the City Council
Funding Source: Not Applicable.
Recommended Action: Motion to: Appoint Betty Croteau to her first four-year term
(07/01/09-06/30/13) to the Library Board of Trustees as recommended by the City Council
Library liaisons Gil Coerper and Joseph Carchio.
Alternative Action(s): Consider alternative appointments.

MEETING DATE: 6/15/2009 DEPARTMENT ID NUMBER: LS 09-02
Analysis: Due to the term of office expiration for Mr. Richard Moore on June 30, 2009, a
vacancy will be created on the Library Board of Trustees. City Council liaisons Gil Coerper
and Joseph Carchio, liaisons to the Library Board of Trustees, met with Stephanie Beverage,
Director of Library Services and reviewed applications of the candidates, selecting Betty
Croteau from the available applicants to fill this vacancy. Ms. Croteau is a 43-year resident
of Huntington Beach and holds a Bachelors Degree in Speech and Hearing Therapy. She
utilizes many of the programs offered at the Huntington Beach Library and serves as a Friend
of the Library.
Strategic Plan Goal: Improve internal and external communication — Increase community
involvement, dialogue, and outreach by educating residents about opportunities for
involvement such as how to donate to projects, volunteer, access information, and offer
opinions through the website and other means.
Environmental Status: Not applicable.

I am a Friend of the Library and take classes on Fridays with Mindful Movements so I spend ample time at the Library
and watch what is happening. I also read a lot and use the services of the Library.

I want to expand my horizans and become more active in my community in an area where I am comfortable.
