Financial Impact: Not Applicable Recommended Action: Motion to: A) Approve the reappointment of Karen Faith Vogel for a second term effective July 1, 2011, through June 30, 2015; and, B) Approve the appointments of Sherrie Daugherty and Richard Moore to their first four- year terms from July 1, 2011, through June 30, 2015, on the Library Board of Trustees as recommended by City Council Library Board Liaisons Connie Boardman and Matthew Harper. Alternative Action(s): Consider alternative appointments. Item 7. - I HB -66- REQUEST FOR COUNCIL ACTION MEETING DATE: 10/17/2011 DEPARTMENT ID NUMBER: LS11-003 Analysis: The term of Karen Faith Vogel expired on June 30, 2011. Ms. Vogel requested reappointment to the Library Board of Trustees. Attached is the communication from Ms. Vogel requesting reappointment to another term. Additionally, due to the term of office expiration for Mr. Lloyd Budwig and Mr. Sidney Kuperberg, two vacancies were created on the Library Board of Trustees. Library Director, Stephanie Beverage, conducted interviews of all the candidates and requested recommendations by City Council Library Board Liaisons Connie Boardman and Matthew Harper of Sherrie Daugherty and Richard Moore from the available applications. Council Members Connie Boardman and Matthew Harper recommend the reappointment of Karen Faith Vogel for her last four-year term effective July 1, 2011, through June 30, 2015, and the appointments of Sherrie Daugherty and Richard Moore for their first four-year terms also effective July 1, 2011, through June 30, 2015. One Board member was eligible for reappointment and she has submitted a request to continue. The other two positions were open and the Library received 4 applications from members of the community. I asked each of the 4 candidates to come in and meet with me to talk about the Library,Library trends,and the Library Board. Two of the applicants came in and met with me to discuss their interest in serving on the Board, and I would like to recommend them to you for appointment. Richard Moore has served on the Library Board before. Richard is a retired school librarian; who continues to have a strong interest in libraries and library advocacy. He is active on the HB Reads committee and has experience serving on other community boards and organizations. Sherrie Daugherty is a retired librarian who is also a long time resident of Huntington Beach. Sherrie has a strong interest in libraries and is well informed about library issues and trends. She is an active user of the library and is familiar with the City and the needs of the community. I recommend the appointment of Richard Moore and Sherrie Daugherty to the Library Board starting terms in 2011. Thank you for your consideration.
