Wilson, City Manager PREPARED BY: Scott Hess, AICP, Director of Planning and Building SUBJECT: Approve appointments to the Historic Resources Board (HRB) Statement of Issue: Transmitted for City Council consideration are the appointments of Ann Minnie and David Wentworth Sr. to the HRB as recommended by City Council liaisons Mayor Connie Boardman and Mayor Pro Tem Matthew Harper. Financial Impact: Not applicable. Recommended Action: Motion to: Approve the appointments of Ann Minnie and David Wentworth Sr. to a first term on the Historic Resources Board expiring June 30, 2015. Alternative Action(s): The City Council may make the following alternative motion(s): 1. Deny the appointments of Ann Minnie and David Wentworth Sr. to the HRB and direct staff to re -advertise the vacancies. 2. Continue the recommended action and direct staff accordingly. HB -79- Item 17. - 1 REQUEST FOR COUNCIL ACTION MEETING DATE: 12/17/2012 DEPARTMENT ID NUMBER: PL12-030 Analysis: Currently, there are three vacancies on the HRB due to resignations. The vacancies were posted by staff. City Council liaisons to the HRB Mayor Connie Boardman and Mayor Pro Tern Matthew Harper reviewed the applications received. After careful consideration of the candidates, the City Council liaisons recommend the appointments of Ann Minnie and David Wentworth Sr. to the HRB. Both applicants are long-time residents interested in preserving the history of the city. Ann Minnie has been active with the Friends of the Library, the Art Center, and the HB High School Alumni Association. David Wentworth Sr. is the son of Alicia Wentworth, former City Clerk and City Historian and great grandson of Ed Manning, first Huntington Beach mayor. It should be noted that a third applicant, Duane Wentworth, will be eligible for appointment sometime in 2013 when he retires from his employment with the city. Environmental Status: Not applicable.
