SUBJECT: Accept resignation and approve appointment of representative for the
Westminster School District to the Community Services Commission (CSC
Statement of Issue
Due to the unscheduled resignation of Shay Reardon, representative of the Westminster School
District, there is a need for the City Council to approve a replacement appointment to the
Community Services Commission

Recommended Action
Accept the resignation of Shay Reardon as representative of the Westminster School District on the
Community Service Commission and approve the appointment of Amy Kwon for partial term to
expire June 30, 2016
Alternative Action(s)
Do not accept the resignation of Shay Reardon, and do not approve the appointment of Amy Kwon
as a replacement representative for the Westminster School District, and direct staff accordingly
Analysis
Per Municipal Code 2 64 040, each elementary, high school, and public community college district
having facilities within the City of Huntington Beach shall have representatives on the Community
Services Commission
Ms Kwon has shown interest through recruitment efforts by the Westminster School District in
volunteering for the Community Services Commission She is a resident of Huntington Beach and
obtained her Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of California, Berkeley, and a Masters
degree from Santa Clara University Ms Kwon has been an educator for eleven years and
currently holds the position of Principal at Warner Middle School within the Westminster School
District In addition to her "single subject" Math and Administrative credentials, Ms Kwon is
bilingual and fluent in Vietnamese Her civic interests Include the Huntington Beach Adult School
and helping within her community She has a vested interest in the quality of, the parks and
beaches within our city as an avid volleyball player and tri-athlete, and looks forward to volunteering
her time to help maintain the quality of life within Huntington Beach
