The Human Relations Task Force (HRTF) was formed in April 1997 with a mission to "promote and
celebrate diversity in our community through education and understanding." Currently the HRTF
has one vacancy due to unscheduled resignations.
Press releases were sent out to advertise the vacancies, as well as notices on the City's website,
Channel 3, social media, and the posting boards at City Hall and the Central Library. As a result of
this process and interviews held by the City Council liaisons, the following individuals are being
recommended for appointment:
Shideh Balali Farjoodi — Ms. Farjoodi has been a resident of Huntington Beach for over two (2)
years. She is an attorney with an office in Newport Beach. She has extensive volunteer
experience working in diversity programs at both Cleveland Humanities High School in Reseda,
California, as well as in the Cross Cultural Center at the University of Davis where she worked in

to bring her life experiences, especially in the area of cultural diversity, to the Task Force.
Michael Waldinger — Mr. Waldinger has been a resident for over 12 years. He is a special
education teacher and has worked with individuals with disabilities for over 20 years. Mr.
Waldinger's civic interests include human rights issues. Mr. Waldinger stated that he "wants
Huntington Beach to be known for its acceptance and hospitality toward all, as this is a beautiful
place to live, and travel destination for our visitors."
Youngsun Park — Ms. Park has lived in the city over six (6) years. She is an attorney and has
volunteered for a number of organizations, most recently as President of the Orange County
Korean American Bar Association. Her civic interests include diversity, seniors, youth, and general
community issues. Ms. Park stated that diversity "has been an issue close to my heart as a
working professional and as a mother of a nine year old girl, and getting involved in her local
