HomeMy WebLinkAboutApprove appointment and reappointments to the Allied Arts BoDept ID CS 15-016 Page 1 of 2 Meeting Date 11/16/2015 CITY OF HUNTINGTON BEACH REQUEST FOR CITY COUNCIL ACTION MEETING DATE: 11/16/2015 SUBMITTED TO: Honorable Mayor and City Council Members SUBMITTED BY: Fred A Wilson, City Manager PREPARED BY: Janeen Laudenback, Director of Community Services SUBJECT: Approve appointment and reappointments to the Allied Arts Board (AAB) as recommended by City Council liaisons Barbara Delgleize and Dave Sullivan Statement of Issue There are currently five vacancies on the Allied Arts Board One of the vacancies is due to a long term unfilled vacancy and four are due to term expirations Financial Impact Not applicable Recommended Action A) Approve the appointment of Julia Baker to a term expiring June 30, 2019, as recommended by City Council liaisons Barbara Delgleize and Dave Sullivan, and, B) Approve the reappointments of Celeste Hamil, Kara Rudin, Matt Rudin, and Catherine Stip to terms expiring June 30, 2019 Alternative Action(s) Do not approve the appointments and direct staff accordingly Analysis Per the Huntington Beach Municipal Code 2 101(H B M C Section 2 101 030), the Allied Arts Board (AAB) shall be composed of nine members There are currently five vacancies on the AAB One vacancy has been open since 2009 The remaining four positions are requests for reappointments to second and third terms With these appointments there will be no vacancies on the AAB The vacancies were posted according to the Maddy Act at City Hall and on the City's website The proposed candidates were reviewed and recommended by the City Council liaisons Barbara Delgleize and Dave Sullivan In addition to the new appointment, the reappointments of four current AAB members to second and third terms allows for consistency and continuity on the board All candidates demonstrate a committed interest in the field of the arts and of local art activities Recommended for Appointment 1 Julia Baker is a published local artist and marketing professional She is active in the local arts community She will fill the open seat left vacant since 2009 She will fulfill a four year term beginning June 2015 HB -31- Item 4. - I Dept ID CS 15-016 Page 2 of 2 Meeting Date 11/16/2015 Recommended for Reappointment 1 Celeste Hamil has completed her first term on the AAB and would like to serve a second term Celeste is an arts volunteer with strong business skills and has served as Chair of the AAB for two years 2 Kara Rudin has served two complete terms and is interested in continuing with a third term on the AAB She has served as chair and co-chair during her two terms and on subcommittees handling the arts awards and the update of the cultural master plan She is a local HB attorney in private practice 3 Matt Rudin has completed two terms and is interested in continuing on for a third term He has served on committees handling the arts awards and the update of the cultural master plan He is an artist and business marketing professional 4 Catherine Stip has Completed two terms and would like to continue on for a third term She is currently serving as vice chair of the AAB, has served as a past chair of the AAB and has served on the arts awards committee for several years She is a contract professional with a local company Environmental Status Not applicable Strategic Plan Goal Improve quality of life Attachment(s) 1 Allied Arts Board Roster Item 4. - 2 HB -32- ALLIED ARTS BOARD ROSTER Effective 10 26 2015 Name Terms Expiring 2017 1.
