Wilson, City Manager PREPARED BY: Scott Hess, AICP, Director of Planning and Building SUBJECT: Approve appointments to the Historic Resources Board Statement of Issue: Transmitted for City Council consideration is the re -appointment of Roz Essner, Joe Santiago, and David Wentworth Sr. to another term, as well as the appointment of Karen McNeil, Charles Epting, and Ronald Knowles to a first -term on the Historic Resources Board as recommended by City Council liaisons Mayor Hardy and Council Member O'Connell. Financial Impact: Not applicable. Recommended Actions: A) Approve the reappointment of Roz Essner, Joe Santiago, and David Wentworth Sr. to another term expiring June 30, 2019; and, B) Approve the appointment of Karen McNeil and Charles Epting to a first -term expiring June 30, 2019, and Ronald Knowles to a first -term expiring June 30, 2017. Alternative Action(s): 1. Deny the reappointment of Roz Essner, Joe Santiago, and David Wentworth Sr. and the appointment of Karen McNeil, Charles Epting, and Ronald Knowles and direct staff accordingly. 2. Continue the recommended action and direct staff accordingly Analysis: The purpose of the Historic Resources Board (Board) is to encourage and promote programs and activities that enhance public awareness of historic resources. The Board acts as an advisory body to City Council as well as a liaison to Council for local, state and federal groups and agencies whose interest involves historic issues. The Board advises on issues of preservation of historic, commercial, and residential structures and sites, co-operates with the Planning Commission and the Community Services Commission to insure that historic preservation and services are considered in the planning for future development of the community. The Board also presents programs reflecting historical aspects of Huntington Beach. The three Board members noted above have terms that will expire June 30, 2015. In addition, there are three vacancies due to resignations. The expiring terms and vacancies were posted by the City Clerk. Mayor Hardy and Council Member O'Connell reviewed the requests for HB -33- Item 2. - I Dept. ID PL 15-011 Page 2 of 2 Meeting Date: 6/1/2015 reappointment and the applications received and they propose approval of the recommended actions. Karen McNeil, Charles Epting, and Ronald Knowles are all long-time residents who are interested in being involved in preserving the history of the city. Environmental Status: Not applicable.
