Wilson, City Manager PREPARED BY: Janeen Laudenback, Director of Community Services SUBJECT: Approve appointment to the Human Relations Task Force (HRTF) as recommended by City Council liaisons Mayor Katapodis and Councilmember Hardv Statement of Issue: Due to the term expiration of one member, there is a need to approve a replacement to the City's Human Relations Task Force. Financial Impact: Not applicable Recommended Action: Approve the appointment of Michelle Gale -Nelson for a term to expire December 31, 2019, as recommended by City Council liaisons Mayor Katapodis and Councilmember Hardy. Alternative Action(s): Do not approve appointment to the Human Relations Task Force and direct staff accordingly. Analysis: The Human Relations Task Force (HRTF) was formed in April 1997 with a mission to "promote and celebrate diversity in our community through education and understanding." Currently the HRTF has one vacancy due to an unscheduled resignation. Press releases were sent out to advertise the vacancy, as well as notices on the City's website, Channel 3, social media, and the posting boards at City Hall and the Central Library. As a result of this process, the following individual is being recommended for appointment. Michelle Gale -Nelson — Ms. Gale -Nelson is a Clinical Technology Resource Registered Nurse (RN). She has a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing from Western Governor's University in Salt Lake City, Utah and is pursuing her Master of Science degree in Nursing Leadership and Management. She has been involved in a number of community programs, including mission trips and serving in Kansas City's largest homeless shelter. When asked why she wishes to serve on the HRTF, she responded "I have a long history of community service and I desire to continue that in my new home town."
