Statement of Issue: There is a need to fill seven adult vacancies on the Children's Needs
Task Force.
Funding Source: Not Applicable.
Recommended Action: Motion to:
1. Approve the appointments of Jim Hayden and Tim.Liggett to.fill the term vacancies of Pat
Guidotti and Phyllis Lembke to expire August 30, 2009 as recommended by Council
liaisons Green and Coerper.
2. Approve the reappointment of Robert Dettloff to August 30, 2009 as recommended by
Council liaisons Green and Coerper.
3. Approve the appointments of Jeanette Price, Martin Rodriguez and Molly Thompson to fill
the term vacancies of Adam Buttons, Ian Collins and Cathy McGough, with terms to
expire August 30, 2011, as recommended by Council liaisons Green and Coerper.
4. Accept the resignation of Stan Cohen and approve the appointment of Jeanette Price for
a term to expire on August 30, 2011 as recommended by Council liaisons Green and
Coerper.
Alternative Action(s): Do not make appointments/reappointments to the Children's Needs
Task Force at this time, and request further review by the Council liaisons.

Analysis: There are currently six adults applying for appointment to the Children's
Needs Task Force due to term expirations, and one adult applying for reappointment. The
vacancies on the task force were posted on the City's official website. Filling six of the
vacancies and extending the term of one member will bring the current membership to ten.
The terms assigned to the extended member and new members are staggered in an effort to
assure that the members serve in accordance with the term assignments as outlined in
Municipal Code 2.100.080.The proposed candidates were reviewed by the Council liaisons,
and their qualifications were deemed suitable for the Children's Needs Task Force. Each
candidate demonstrates a committed interest in the welfare of children:
1. Robert Dettloff is a long term resident of Huntington Beach and a community volunteer.
His involvement and dedication on the Children's Needs Task Force is invaluable. He
contributes to each meeting in a positive and effective manner.
2. Jim Hayden is a long term resident of Huntington Beach and a community volunteer.
His civic 'service has given him a great appreciation for the needs of others in the
community. As a parent and grandparent, he has a strong desire to be involved in
programs for the youth in the community.
3. Tim Liggett is a long term resident of Huntington Beach with extensive involvement in a
variety of community groups. He possesses a strong desire to work with city officials
and residents on community issues.
4. Jeanette Price is a long term resident of Huntington Beach and community volunteer.
She has extensive experience in volunteering for youth oriented groups and desires to
participate as an advocate for youth in the community.
5. Martin Rodriguez, a resident of Huntington Beach, currently serves as the Program
Coordinator for the Oak View Family Resource Center. He has extensive training and
experience in areas relating to children. He possesses a strong desire to serve the
needs of the community with emphasis on youth.
6. Molly Thompson is a resident of Huntington Beach with a strong desire to address the
needs of children and serve the community. Her passion is focused in the areas of
education and nutrition where she desires to make a positive difference.
7. Jacqueline Watson is a long term resident of Huntington Beach and involved in civic
and community outreach. She has more than 25 years experience as a social worker
and has a strong desire to guide and support the youth find accessible role models.
Environmental Status: Not applicable.
Strategic Plan Goal: Appointing and reappointing at-large community representatives to
the Children's Needs Task Force would meet Strategic Plan Goal E-1 and increase
community involvement, assuring that the community is well represented on this Council
approved task force.
