ENGLE, 6R�COMMUNITY SERVICES SUBJECT: APPROVE APPOINTMENTS TO THE CHILDREN'S NEEDS TASK FORCE Statement of Issue, Funding Source, Recommended Action, Alternative Action(s), Analysis, Environmental Status, Attachment(s) Statement of Issue: There are three student vacancies on the Children's Needs Task Force. Funding Source: Not applicable. Recommended Action: Motions to: Approve the appointment of students Whitney Loo, Stephanie Smallshaw, and Audrey Taylor to the Children's Needs Task Force for a term to expire June 30, 2009, as recommended by Council liaisons Gil Coerper and Cathy Green. Alternative Action(s): Do not make appointments/reappointments to the Children's Needs Task Force at this time, and request further review by the Council liaisons. Analysis: There are currently three students applying for appointment to the Children's Needs Task Force. The vacancies on the task force were posted on the City of Huntington Beach official website and at City Hall. The proposed candidates were reviewed by the Council liaisons, and their qualifications were deemed suitable for the Children's Needs Task Force. Each candidate demonstrates a committed interest in the welfare of children and the community: Whitney Loo participates in school leadership and the National Charity League. She is active in a variety of school activities and committees, serving as the Publicity Director for "Helping Our Children". She has a strong desire to work with children and welcomes the opportunity to represent the youth in the community. REQUEST FOR CITY COUNCIL ACTION MEETING ®ATE: 11/03/08 DEPARTMENT I® NUMBER: CS08-26 2. Stephanie Smallshaw participates in school leadership and was selected as a student representative in the Sister City program. She has been active in community service and has a strong desire to make a positive contribution to the community. 3. Audrey Taylor participates in a variety of school activities including "Helping Our Children" and volunteers as a tutor at the Huntington Beach Library. She has a passion to serve the youth in the community and desire to be involved in community service. Staff concurs with the recommendations of the Council liaisons. Strategic Plan Goal: Appointing student representatives to the Children's Needs Task Force would meet Strategic Plan Goal E-1, increase community involvement, dialogue, and outreach by educating residents about opportunities for involvement, assuring that the community is well represented on this Council approved task force.
