Ave.; CC--294 STATEMENT: the East Side of of to F00 Feet North of On DecemLer 19, 1977, the City Council authorized a call for bids for the improvement of Algonquin Street. RECOMMENDED ACTION: Accept the low bid and award the contract to lAc%fee and Morisette Construction, Long Beach, California, in the amount of $25,839.00 and reject all other bids. ANALYSIS: The project was estimated at $21,500,00. The bids were received on January 9, 1978 and are listed below in order of dollar amount: 1. McAfee & Morisette Construction $25, 839.00 2. Sully Miller $25,665.94 A!+hough there is a $4,300 difference between the engineer's estimate and the low bid, because of the small size of this project and also because of recent increases in labor and material cost, the low bid is acceptable in comparison to the project estimate. FUNDING SOURCE: The project will be funded from the City's Gas Tax Fund (60%) and ~ County Arterial. Highway-- Financing Progr:m (40%) funds. Plans and specifications, together with proposal form, may be obtained at the office of the Director of Public Works, City Hall, Huntington Beach, California. No bid will be received unless it is made on a blank form furnished by the Director of Public Works. The special attention of prospective bidders is called to the proposal requirements, setforth in the specifications, for full directions as to the bidding. Hartge, Director of Public Works/;/ //"- ry � DATE : December 13, 1977 SUBJECT: Improvement of the East Side of Algonquin Street from 300 Feet North of to 600 Feet North of Warner Avenue; CC-294 STATEMENT OF PROBLEM: Algonquii Street is fully improved between Warner Avenue and Heil Avenue with the exception of the East side between 300' North of to 600' North of Warner Avenue. Because of increasing traffic demands this section of Algonquin should now be improved. RECOMMENDED ACTION: l•.pprove the plans and specifications for the improvement- of Algonquin and authorize the call for bids. ANALYSIS: In 1974, based on a resolution of request from the City, the im- provement of Algonquin Street was included in the Orange County Arterial Highway Financing Program. This City -County cooperative project includes curb, gutter and paving along the East side of Algonquin Street from 300 feet North of to 600 feet North of Warner Avenue. As a part of this project the right of way needed for this street improvement was also acquired. This: project; was found to be in conformance with the General Plan by the Planning Commission on October 18, 1977. Exemption Declaration No. 74-143 has been granted by the City's Environmental Review Board. FUNDING SOURCE: The project cost is estimated at $22,000. The County's share is estimates: at $8,000. The City's share of the project is estimated at $14,000 and will be financed from the Gas Tax Account.
