REQUEST FOR CITY COUNCIL ACTION
MEETING DATE: 6/19/2006 DEPARTMENT ID NUMBER: PW 06-036
Analysis: The Fiscal Year 2005-2006 budget provides $1,440,000 for the replacement of
the City's flood control station equipment, specifically, natural gas engines used to pump
storm water. Included in this amount is $440,000 provided by an EPA grant. To date, the
nine (9) engines designated for replacement have been purchased and are either installed or
in the process of being installed. Due to discounts applied by the City's vendor on the
engines purchased, approximately $172,000 remains in the equipment replacement account.
The City's fifteen (15) flood control stations utilize fifty-seven (57) natural gas engines to
pump storm water to the various flood control channels. Many of the engines in the system
were installed in the 1960s and are due for replacement. Of the remaining engines
scheduled for change -out, Atlanta Flood Control Station Engine #3 is the most important and
the estimated replacement cost of $165,000 most closely fits the funds remaining in the
account.
Public Works Commission Action: None required.
Environmental Status: Not applicable.
