Cook, Director of Public Work W*W: Purchase bumping Unit For Newland Stores Drain Pump Stmtioni CC-577 S etwomit of low, Asoonrtwrtt adon, A nMysk, Furst Sou"o, A herrAdkv Aurtkwo; Ans0wtrmw 4tlo Statement of issue: The existing pumping units at the Newland Pump Station cannot accommodate the design flows; entering the station. Therefore a pumping unit with increased capacity is necessary to pr.wAde add.itioaal protection from flooding for the residents in the drainage Area. Reo t,.rraended Action: Approve the plans and specifications for the purchase of er unit for the Newland Storm nrain Pump Station and authorize the rat rusViing for bids. Ai;alysis: w C+uri.ng the winter rains, extromoly high water lgveslss are experienced at the .Newland Pump Station. This causes the water to hack up .into the streets and flooding to occur in some. portions of tho arexinage area, in order to Lower the water level, additional pumping capacity in needed. The City's Master Plan of Storm Drains indicates that the existing pump station is 63% deficient. This new pumping unit will replace 15 year old pumping equipment and will significantly increaso the capacity of the station. It is imperative that the pump, goats drive and engine be ordered at this time because the equipment delivery time is estimated to her nine months. Thee increased pumping capacity will then be available for next year's rainy season. Alternatives: 1. Do not purchase the new pumping equipment. This would leave portions of the drains e area subject to flooding. 2. Poiitpone the purchase of the pimping oquiprnGnt to a later date. Decause of delivery tirae, this will not allow sufficionh tins to install the the pumping unit prior to next year's rainy season. Funding: This is a Council approved budgeted project and is e,stimatod to rust $180,o00. it is financed from City Drainage District 71i and the account number it 325770.
