BEARDSLEY, Director of Public Works Xd SUBJECT: Approve Expenditure For Golden West Street and Bolsa Avenue Traffic Signal and Street Modification Project Statement of Issue, Funding Source, Recommended Action, Alternative Action(s), Analysis, Environmental Status, Attachment(s) Statement of Issue: The City of Huntington Beach and the City of Westminster share the intersection of Bolsa Avenue and Golden West Street. This intersection needs street improvements and traffic signal modifications as described in the analysis section. The City of Westminster received a grant for the necessary construction and will reimburse the City of Huntington Beach for purchasing the traffic signal equipment and appurtenances. Funding Source: Costs have been budgeted in the GMA — 6 fund. Recommended Action: Motion to authorize the Director of Public Works to expend a total of $50,000 for traffic signal equipment and appurtenances with the understanding that this amount will be reimbursed by the City of Westminster. Alternative Action(s): Motion to not authorize the Director of Public Works to expend a total of $50,000 for traffic signal equipment and appurtenances and cancel the traffic signal and street improvement modifications. REWEST FOR COUNCIL ACTION MEETING DATE: January 4, 1999 DEPARTMENT ID NUMBER: PW 98-097 Analysis: The City of Huntington Beach and the City of Westminster share the intersection of Bolsa Avenue and Golden West Street. This intersection needs street improvements and traffic signal modifications. The street improvements will consist of adding additional travel lanes and guide signs to allow easier access to the southbound San Diego Freeway. The traffic signal modifications will consist of new signal poles/mastarms and rewire the signal and adjacent street lights. The City of Westminster received a grant for the necessary construction and will be the contract manager. The cost for the traffic signal and street improvement project is the responsibility of the City of Westminster and the City of Huntington Beach. The initial cost of $250,000 has been supplied by GMA approved funding. The City of Huntington Beach is responsible for purchasing the traffic signal poles and equipment, which will cost approximately $50,000. The City of Huntington Beach will be reimbursed by the City of Westminster for this expenditure.
