HomeMy WebLinkAboutBartlett Park - Council Ad Hoc Committee Created - SubmittedTo: Honorable Mayor and City Council M tubers From: Jill Hardy, City Council Member Joe Carchio, City Council Member Date: August 12, 2013 Subject: CITY COUNCIL MEMBER ITEM FOR THE AUGUST 19, 2013, CITY COUNCIL MEETING — CREATE CITY COUNCIL AD HOC COMMITTEE ON BARTLETT PARK STATEMENT OF ISSUE: Bartlett Park is one of two undeveloped parks in Huntington Beach. Multiple agencies have an interest in the park, which has been one obstacle to development. Funding is another obstacle. A development plan was approved by the City Council in 2010, but it has yet to receive approval of the other agencies with jurisdiction. In addition, many organizations and individuals in the city have expressed an interest in volunteering time and money to implement the development plan once it is finalized. RECOMMENDED ACTION: Create a City Council Ad Hoc Committee on Bartlett Park. This committee will meet quarterly with staff to receive updates on the status of the development plan and help organize volunteer efforts once the plan is approved. xc: Fred Wilson, City Manager Joan Flynn, City Clerk Janeen Laudenback, Interim Director of Community Services 104 dcj Z (y-1-4KJy1 OA4+'O' -D Esparza, Patty From: Surf City Pipeline [noreply@user.govoutreach.com] Sent: Tuesday, September 10, 2013 11:22 AM To: CITY COUNCIL; Agenda Alerts Subject: Surf City Pipeline: Comment on an Agenda Item (notification) Request # 15745 from the Government Outreach System has been assigned to Agenda Alerts. September 10, 2013 Dear Huntington Beach Council Member, My name is Dan Nichols and I am writing today to voice my ongoing concern with the state of Bartlett Park. As a local business owner, longtime HB resident and homeowner in the adjacent Landmark tract for nearly 10 years, my family, neighbors, and I are hopeful that real progress can be made to transform the negative environment and recent tragedy into a new beginning for a plan of action for turning the park into a haven for all residents, visitors, and protected species of animals. What many see as blight, a hub for drug dealing, and homeless encampments, I see a future of children playing, visitors enjoying hikes through, and birdwatchers appreciating the many species that make the park home. With this in mind I would like to volunteer to serve on the newly formed committee as a voice for good, positive, and creative solutions for the future vision of the park. If there are no volunteer spots available, I would appreciate being on any communications list where the park is discussed or plan of action is formed. Thank you for your ongoing efforts and support of our community and Bartlett Park as we move forward.
