In addition, the Council Members were to appoint six (6) members at -large from the community and six (6) BID members (restaurant/retail) to focus on improving the environment in the downtown area during the summer months, holidays, and weekend nights. The Downtown Image Ad Hoc Committee has been meeting monthly since February of this year. In addition to the Committee, four (4) sub -committees were formed to focus on public safety, culture, maintenance, and business attraction/nightlife. The sub- committees met to define the issues and provide recommendations to the Ad Hoc Committee on which to vote on and then bring to the City Council. On average, 25 to 30 attendees representing the community and BID have participated in the Ad Hoc Committee meetings. In addition, there has been active participation in each of the sub -committees and some of the individuals have expressed a desire to also be on the Ad Hoc Committee. Based upon the level of interest of the public and BID, 23 people would like to serve as the official Ad Hoc Committee with an opportunity to vote on the sub -committee recommendations. Increasing the voting members to 23 will allow the greatest involvement in the Ad Hoc Committee and ensure that all viewpoints are represented. I work with the Downtown Residents Association, which has a growing membership of about 225 residents. I am writing you in support of Council Members Joe Carchio, Devin Dwyer, . and Don Hansen's request to increase the number of members on the Downtown Image Ad Hoc Committee to seven (7) Business Improvement District (BID) members and sixteen (16) community members. I think Chief Small summarized the success of this committee the best, in his concluding remarks at our last meeting. To paraphrase the Chief, he said that this committee had been the best opportunity for downtown residents to voice their quality of life concerns to the City in years. For this reason, among many others, I support Council Members Carchio, Dwyer, and Hansen's request. Furthermore, I would like to take this opportunity to commend Council Members Carchio, Dwyer, and Hansen for their time, efforts, and openness in running this conunittee. Council Member Hansen in particular, I believe, has tried to provide impartial leadership for our group. We look forward to the full Council's granting Council Members Carchio, Dwyer, and Hansen's request at its June 15th meeting. A number of our members plan to attend. Thank you for your consideration and support. See you Monday evening.
