Wilson, City Manager PREPARED BY: Stephanie Beverage, Director of Library Services SUBJECT: Accept donation from the Friends of the Huntington Beach Library and approve appropriation of $96,000 for print books, ebooks and other materials Statement of Issue: Approve and accept a major donation from the Friends of the Huntington Beach Library to support the Library's collection of books and materials. Financial Impact: No fiscal impact. Recommended Action: Accept and approve budget appropriation for donation received in the amount of $96,000, of which $70,000 will be deposited into account 10350102.64455 and of which $26,000 will be deposited into account 10350102.64470 - from the Friends of the Huntington Beach Library for books and materials. Alternative Action(s): Do not accept and approve budget appropriation for the donation from the Friends of the Huntington Beach Library. Analysis: The Friends of the Huntington Beach Library regularly donate money to the Library Services department in support of purchases for the Library Collection. The Library Services department recently requested and received $96,000 to support the purchase of books and materials. This donation exceeds the $50,000 limit set by recent City Council action in City Council Resolution No. 2013-08, that authorized the City Manager and Finance Director to accept and appropriate donated funds administratively. The size of the donation requires City Council Action for acceptance and appropriation. The support from the Friends of the Huntington Beach Library has made it possible for the Library Services department to continue to offer a high level of service for the community during times of reduced budgets. Environmental Status: N/A Strategic Plan Goal: Improve long-term financial sustainability Attachment(s): None. Item 2. - I HB -16-
