Hopkins, PE, Director of Public Works DATE: August 16, 2017 SUBJECT: City Council Agenda August 21, 2017 — Downtown Maintenance and Public Improvements Report At the June 19, 2017 City Council meeting, staff presented potential areas of the enhanced downtown maintenance district that needed additional maintenance and repairs. At that time, City Council directed staff to provide an ongoing update on maintenance enhancements, unbudgeted needs, partnering with downtown Huntington Beach Downtown Business Improvement District (HBDBID). Since the June 19, 2017 City Council meeting, Public Works staff has taken steps to address some of the core maintenance issues in the downtown area. The City has since paved and striped Main Street from PCH to Adams, replaced water utility air vac housing grates, repaired and replaced various utility covers, planter bricks, graffiti and sticker removal, pavers and skate stops. Staff will continue working with the HBDBID to prioritize various projects and additional maintenance needs on the downtown maintenance and repairs priority list and funding opportunities to address unbudgeted funding needs. The City is seeking a continued partnership with the HBDBID, business owners, and property owners in order to help beautify the downtown area. At this time, staff is recommending to return to Council in 90 days with a status update of maintenance enhancements, unbudgeted needs, and various identified projects.
