Should the City adopt a resolution so that the project can proceed? Funding Source: FEMA grant for $455,000 is budgeted in 81688004.82500; the City match of$106,500 from Drainage Funds is budgeted in 21188004.82500. Recommended Action: Adopt Resolution No.o?Wl o2 7 approving plans and specifications for the flood control improvements to the East Garden Grove-Wintersburg Channel (C05) and Ocean View Channel (C06) from 349 meters upstream of Goldenwest Street to 350 meters upstream of Gothard Street, including the confluence with Murdy Channel by the Orange County Public Facilities and Resources Department and funded by the OCFCD. 01-052 May 21 Krieger(C05).doc -2- 5/7/01 4:48 PM REQUEST FOR ACTION MEETING DATE: 05-21-01 DEPARTMENT ID NUMBER: Adopt Resolution Approving Plans and Specifications for Flood Control Improvements to the East Garden Grove-Wintersburg and Ocean View Channels Alternative Action(s): Deny approval of plans and specifications. This action may cause the County to allocate funds to other flood control projects within the County. Analysis: The City entered into Cooperative Agreement Number D98-119 with the County in December 1999 for the design and construction of the Murdy Channel convergence with the County's Channel. The County was able to obtain all necessary permits and include the design of Murdy Channel into its own process. The County project will extend from 349 meters upstream of Goldenwest Street to 350 meters upstream of Gothard Street, including the confluence with Murdy Channel. Before the OCFCD can proceed with a project within the City, per the California Public Contracts Code, the City of Huntington Beach must adopt a resolution approving the plans and specifications. The County's widening project within this reach of the East Garden Grove-Wintersburg and Ocean View Channels and the City's Murdy Channel are designed to protect surrounding residential neighborhoods from flooding. Staff has reviewed the County's plans and specifications and concurs with its request for City Council approval. Public Works Commission Review: This item was presented to the Public Works Commission for approval on May 16, 2001. Environmental Status: E.I.R. 560 is on file with the OCFCD for this project.
