Mr. Yrisarri approached the City Council Cable Committee in April, 1998, with a proposal to produce a documentary to chronicle the history of the City of Huntington Beach. Mr. Yrisarri's goal is to have the historical video completed during the City's 90th Birthday, which occurs in 1999. Between April and August of 1998, Mr. Yrisarri met with various individuals in the community to seek participation and support for proceeding with the development of the historical video. Once completed, the historical video is envisioned as a resource for local elementary, middle and high schools. Along with the video, a lesson plan would be developed which would enable teachers to instruct students about the history of their community.. The video is also envisioned as being used to promote economic development, for airing on HBTV-3, and to be made available to tourists who visit our city. Mr. Yrisarri has prepared a proposed outline, timeline, and budget for the project. This material is attached for your review. At this time, the Council Cable Committee requests the City Council: 1) support the project, and 2) support the mailing of the attached letter on City letterhead, and signed by the Mayor. The letter encourages private businesses to become supporters for the development of a historical video about the City of Huntington Beach by financially contributing to help cover the production costs of the project. To ensure factual accuracy,a project team is being formed which includes a professional historian, the City Historian, educators and others.
