U. floe 1W City lull lluntinLton Dearh, California September 4 , 1962 Honorable Mayor and City Cenci [ City Hall Huntington Reach, California Gentlemen: On July 17 , 1962 , a Planning Commission held a public hearing on, AV #453 led by E . C. Cunningham and U. D. Cash concerning proper -y, at the norr_hwest corner of Atlanta Avenue and Huntington Street . The request Is to waive the setback from Atlanta Avenue in order to construct a 4-unit apartment building , At the Commission hearing , the attorney for the applicant and the building contractor spoke in behalf of the request and ►:here were no protests . After a lengthy discussion by the Corixnission, Coarnissioner Bazi.l moved that the application be approved with a setback of 53 feet from the centerline of Atlanta. This would result in a 3 ft side yard after Atlanta is completely widened . the motion was lost for wane of a second . Thereupon, Commis- sioner Letson moved , second by Miller, to approve AV #4 53 as requested . the motion was lost by a tie vote of 3 to 3 with Chairman Stang being absent . A Copy of the Staff Report to the Co „ fission is attached for your information which sets out in greaser detail the problems Involved in the request . L•kespect:ully submitted , W. C . In this case there are 2 - 27 ft lo.9 at the corner of a primary highway, Atlanta M,enue) and a IQcal ©trcryt ( luuntingLen Street ) , n. a lots front on Huntington ens' side onto At lasts . As to bruins 19 feet of the le:: to build upon, there Are a great many logs in thv City r;hich have a maximum of 19 feet of Space for a b;aild:irg . The applicant has suggested that bcLt•hen Lake and Huntington Streets, Atlanta could be widened , all on the south side where Cho land is vactnt . Thie3, it seems , would not be fair to that ourner and probably the City would have to purchase the extra right-of-way. That Cost might not be very green: , but on the other hand , why should carpayere monay be expended in this way to enhance the value of the applicant ' s property? The Staff has also discussed the possibility of reducing the Classific ti.ott of Atlanta, between Lake and Highway 39, to a secondary hl.gltway rather than a primazp.
