Attention: Mr. Paul C. Jones, City Clerk
Dear Council Hemmers:
Power.. Inc. in the name of Huntington Beach Inter-Community' Hospital

accepted this condition at ','that time and 'appl.ied only for an

The City Council
Huntington Beach California8 ,
Gentlemen:
The purpos 3 of this letter !a to recommend
that the proposed request for the construction of a
one-hundred fourty-four bed convalescent nursin home 4.
as outlined in Use Variance #766 be denied for the }
follcwing reasons :
Powers Incorporatod is now in the midst of
making a 1.: `rge outlay of capital, times and energy ill :
the planning and construction of a medical center for
comprehensive care in Huntington Bea; he from the
start, their planning has included the eventual eons-
tructi.on of a convalescent nursing home, closely in-
tegrated with the new hospital and its medical services
I and facilities. Adequate land for the construction
or such a nursing home was secured with the original .
4'
land acquisition of some f if teen ac.•es on Beach : oule•- Y
vardy and it was incorporated in the it original, mister
plan.
Permi3aion by the City Council given .to any
other _party to build such a convalescent nursing home 1
in the nearby area would be a definite hindrance to tno
orderly, planned development ..
P pnent o£ the Huntington Intercom
munity Hospital, and its supporting facilities .
i It 13 therefore requested ttvit Use Variance j
#766 be denied.

5. "zt is apparent from the communication of the appellant,
Power, Inc., of November 13, , 1964, that ,i l:s appeal lacks merit
and . fails to state a legitimate basis for evessing the Plarn3ing*
Cammiseion.
it is therefore respectfully. urged that the appaal to reverse,'
