Representatives from the Home Council, : Home Ovrisre .association, Board of Realtors, Chamber of Commerce ' Bueineea Men's Association plus Department Heeds were invited. to attend and offer their ideas and opinions. After rather considerable diaeussion the commission decided that home occupations should not be a pi=#ted t h. Further, each request should :be handled on an individual use vvarianoe basis and those that use Huntington sac , q i may be approved would be uiiob j ectionable and approved for one year only. With this slight modification ,i.n their attitude toward the broad picture of home occupations, they now feel that UV #812 which is befor-. the City Council on an appeal should receive favorable consi4eration. March 22, 1965 Gentlemen: On Tuesday, evening, March 16th., I appeared before the Huntington Beach Planning Commission to learn the diapooiticn:of my request, which wus submitted'at an earlier date, for a Use Variance J812 to allow me to continue my proffessioa df teaching piano & organ in my home studIv. I was, informed that because of an existing ordinance, prohibiting any home occupation they were unable to grant this request. I had not been informed at the time of my application of this ordinance. An a resident of Huntington Beach,, I wish to request that the City Council ask the Planning Commission 'to study said Ordinance and amend It so the peoples of this area need r_;,t be deprived .of the opportunity to study not only music but the other a-its as veil under the guidance ,of, ecmpetant' ;,rained teachers. Of course there wrntld have to be restrictiona- i4osed, such as, only private and not class leesonB be given, no advc..rtizing aigns or placards put up, and the bourn the lesson& could be given without disturbing the ineighbors. Permits could be given on a yearly basis and could be revoked for non-compliance with said restrictions. I have been a music and piano teacher for over twenty years, luiving taught even other teachers who wanted to further their musical education. I studied at the Sherwood Nueic Schools, Chicago# Ill., where I earned my Teacher's Certificate and am qualified to teach through the eigth grade of music. I eras also a Church Organist for .msny years in the San Joaquin Valley,} Calif., where I was born and did most of hay teaching. For the past'.seven years:;I have taught im home studio at 863 CongraKa Street, Costa Mdea, with 'r.o conplsinta fror, my neighbors, As the w-jority of my students cane from"homes in this 'land adjnning areas, I left ny. Congress St. , addr, oss and moved to Huntingto:. Beach. I have students fromr Tustin, Santa Ann, Garden Gro.e, Fountain Va11ey, Coate, Mesa, Newport Beach, Laguna and aranga to Larne a few lecalltiee. Sincerely, d ,4p 47,7k Kra.
