Subject: CITY COUNCIL MEMBIVR ITEM OR THE JUNE 3, 2013, CITY
COUNCIL MEETING — ISTER ITY MANLY, NEW SOUTH
WALES, AUSTRALIA
STATEMENT OF ISSUE:
On October 3, 2011, the Huntington Beach City Council voted to adopt Resolution No.
2011-70 - "A Resolution of the City Council of the City of Huntington Beach extending
an invitation to Manly Council, New South Wales, Australia, to become a Sister City and
inviting the people of Manly Council, New South Wales, Australia, to participate in said
Program." The City Council action stipulated that the relationship would be informal and
it would not include cultural exchanges or student exchanges and would not include any
city funds.
In conversations with the Surfing Walk of Fame Board of Directors and CEO Don
MacAllister, it was determined that they would assume the responsibilities as liaisons
between the city of Manly and the city of Huntington Beach. An agreement has been
reached between the Anjo, Japan Sister City Board and the Surfing Walk of Fame
Board on the responsibilities of each Board. Having the Surfing Walk of Fame become
the Sister City Board to Manly, would allow the city of Huntington Beach to maintain a
formal relationship and expand both the business and surfing culture of both the city of
Huntington Beach and the city of Manly, New South Wales, Australia..
RECOMMENDED ACTION:
To accept the Surfing Walk of Fame as the governing board of Sister City Manly, New
South Wales, Australia.
