COMMENTS FROM PUBLIC
GOLF COURSE COMMENTS
Replacement for Driftwood 47
Only a 9 hole pitch & putt course-par 3 23
Well-kept golf course 1
Golf course would pay for the multi-purpose center 1
There are school grounds and other parks but no 1
other short courses in this area
Snack Bar in Pro Shop 1
It would be very nice for the Senior Citizens that are 4
also into golf and use Driftwood
• Reasonably priced golf would generate revenue- 4
development would.increase property value
• Would like 18 hole regulation course 1
• Practice putting facility 3
• Use American Golf Co for developer 1
Driving range 4
Golf course should not exceed 1400 yards 1
• Golf course would be wonderful 8
• No lights or nets 7
• No golf 45
• Limit to Senior golf and Senior multi-purpose use in 1
Ted Bartlett's memory
• Find some room while all those new homes are going 1
up near Gothard, Ellis, Goldenwest, and Sea Point
for a golf course
Golf course takes up too much room. 2
Golf course is "user discrimination' 2
A smaller putting area 1
The contaminants and runoff from fertilizer and 1
pesticides for gold courses would be detrimental

SENIOR CITIZENS CENTER COMMENTS 1
• Not sure about senior center 3
• Senior center would be wonderful 27
• Senior Center should be one story 1
• Senior center should be two-story to conserve space, 2
perhaps a pro shop
• Already have a better located senior center and 1
golf course, that are paid for
• Many senior areas include passive activities with not 5
only horseshoe but also bacci balls, shuffleboard
and/or ham radio
• Rodgers Senior Center is a disgrace 3
• Seniors Center should be useful only to seniors 1
and/or tots only if it is located there
• Planned Senior Center is too big (20,000 sq. ft. 2
ample
• Any senior facility should.be self-supporting by user 1
fees
• Delete 40,000 sq. ft. center; blight construction; and 2
delete expansion of parking lot
• There is an existing senior facility within 3 miles 2
• Concerned about seniors' negotiating traffic in order 1
to get to the parking spot
• Senior center only, do not use area as a revenue 3
base.
• Already have a better located senior center and golf 1
course, that are paid for
GENERAL COMMENTS
• Maybe a lake or stream (2 fishing lake) 3
• Neighborhood Park 8
• Barbecue grills are a fire danger 2
• Parking near shopping center, not by the homes 2
• Pedestrian entrance from Yorktown 1
• Sports facility only if funds available from other uses 3
to pay for maintenance
• Better entrance 1
• Amphitheater 1
• Isolate and retain detention basin for flooding 2
• Light recreation 1
• Community center for families 3
• Bark Park 7
• No dogs 3
• Another skateboard park(rollerblade too) or path 3
• Archery range 1
• Lets have an adult park, we are tired of sharing our 4
parks with children
• Most of the items on the amenities list are on our 2
beach, city parks and school campuses
• Please do this-we have been waiting too long 16
• Thank you 5
• Should be named Newland Park 1
• Grassy area for soccer/baseball practice 4
• Model airplane flight field 1
33099
GENERAL COMMENTS
• Concern re homeless people who have been a 5
danger to the area children in the past
• Consider gangs might utilize things like basketball 2.
court
• Hopefully, development will curb the vagrancy, drug 4
users, pyromaniacs, partying and/or trash dumping
that goes on now
• Swimming pool and athletic fields wanted 1
• Tennis courts wanted (1 daytime use only) 6
• Add more landscape trees 2
• Covered parking lot 1
• Natural park 24
• Impose strict curfew 2
• Space for good Classical music concerts 2
• Racquetball/handball courts 4
• Garden with benches 2
• Rest rooms (locked at night) (1 w/drinking fountain) 2
•. No activities that encourage noise pollution or trash 1
• Rental to public clubhouse 2
• Traffic signal on Yorktown 3
• Bike trail 5
• Land should be put to better use to beautify the 1
community
• Be sure to include park lights on any trails 1
• Adequate parking to avoid parking in residential area 3
• What happened to the Heritage Park plan submitted 1
to the Historical Society?
• Bike BMX Track 3
• No objections as long as it is safe 2
• Outdoor weddings with kitchen 1
• Hot dog stand 1
• Area should be definitely used .1
After 38 years of paying for HB development, due to 1
the people is all of this proposal
• Police patrol 1
• Amenities could be added at a later date with 1
revenues from golf course. Start with low
maintenance cost
Time to try to set more parks and open space 1
Walking paths with flowers and/or urban forest 9
Park for young children 2
• Lawn bowling 1
No basketball court 4
• Entrance from Newland 1
• No sports field 3
• No Frisbee disc 1
• More green belt/grass 4
Build it near the existing center 1
33099
GENERAL COMMENTS (CONT.)
What's wrong with leaving it "as is"? 27
Nothing but a golf course, leave the rest natural. 1
• I would rather have a shooting range than a golf 1
course.
• No senior center or golf course 9
• Already have a better located senior center and 1
golf course, that are paid for
• Too much congestion in Newland Center. 6
• Give us a break from development 2
• Leave the hills for the children 1
• Enough trash containers 2
No barbecue grills-No Frisbee disc golf 1
• Day use only, no extra lights 1
Much too ambitious plans 1
• The added traffic and noise would be detrimental to 7
the nearby residents
• No rest rooms, look at Tanager Park in Costa 1
Mesa.
• City should have more park areas, no spend 1
money on libraries or just a few parks
• Not close to bus for transportation 1
• Light for evening time 1
Hockey rink 1
• Would like to see the current cleared of trash, dog 3
feces law enforced, and patrolled to keep out
homeless and teen parties.
• Would like to walk dogs 3
• Sufficient undeveloped area to act as a noise- 1
buffer
• Only buildings should be rest rooms 1
• Concerns on noise and lighting 1
• The history of this park should have been to keep it 3
passive
• Present park is helping preventing juvenile 1
delinquency
• City needs money for infrastructure repairs 1
Keep this area for migratory animals 2
24 hour supervision to quad area 1
• Possibly if it doesn't compromise our privacy-my 1
property backs to it
• No parking areas 1
• Picnic tables 1
• What will be the impact on property values to 1
homes in the adjacent homes?

CITY OF HUNTINGTON BEACH
BARTLETT PARK MASTER PLAN
PROPOSED ENHANCEMENT OF BARTLETT PARK
Bartlett Park is one of the few remaining underdeveloped park sites in Huntington Beach that
includes a natural habitat. It deserves careful consideration as the city seeks assistance to enhance
this area. Slated for park purposes, this plot is approximately 30 acres in size. It is located be-
tween Adams and Yorktown Avenues, west of Coldwater Drive and east of the Newland Shopping
Center.
About one and one half acres feature the historic Newland House (museum), Newland Barn
(community meeting room), and visitor parking. This historic blufftop overlooks a water retention
basin and a portion.of that land is an Environmentally Sensitive Habitat Area (ESHA) and will always
remain available to indigenous flora and fauna.
Discussions for enhancement have suggested that a neighborhood park be developed to
serve the community. Other attractions may include, but not be limited to, a senior citizen multi-
purpose center, a 3-par pitch and putt nine-hole golf course for daytime use only, and a small pro
shop. There will be no driving range. Additional amenities are listed below for your perusal. Keep
in mind that the area is linear which may limit many active uses. Only security lighting is planned
for the park.
Presently, the city is requesting your assistance in the development of a design concept
for Bartlett Park. The actual construction of the proposed park is unfunded. At this time, we are
concerned with hearing your recommendations for Bartlett Park.
Please complete the survey and return to:
