The recent budget cut that has virtually stopped an already shoddy and inept growth of the Brunswick Park site in our area of the city is a bitter disappointment if not a breach of good faith. It is difficult to imagine how donated Prroperty with given improvements can over three years develop" into what Councilman Velch accurately described as a "cru,,imy park.'.' If the Council is resolute in prevention of an increase in taxes to provide urgent needs of this city then it is past time it determines alternative funding methods. It is apparent that to establish an organized pazK program the city needs at least: j 1. a commission or similar citizen body to develop a city philosophy and give shape and direction to the parks and recreation program. 2. a position that would have as its major duty the . management and development of the above program i and staffed by a qualified individual. ;• Fa master plan and sub-plans for areas and f. individual sites which defines goals and objectives 1 and sets target dates for cempletiun. 4. the employment of able and qualified professional advisors and technicians to recovLmend proper facilities, design, landscaping, etc. Cam ' HOM E r OWIVIERS Damon 'Ned ASSOCIATION HUNTINGTON BEACH CALIFORNIA. Based an the City Council adopted report, "The Selection of Paric j and Plrtyground Sites". a priority has been establi.O id for the Proposed park site addition at Goldenwest Street an.. BrunswickDrive. The priority is #11 w'hich means, in terms of the report, that there are 32 sites that would better serve the public. In Addition, it should be noted that there are several negative features connected with this proposed site chat were not included ( in the desirshility =acing as outlined on page 10 of the report: 1. A population estimate within the Quarter Section indicates a park need of 2.1 acres and a playground need of 3.4' acres. The existing, park and playground site has a net acreage of 4 6.06 acres. Thus, the calculated recreational needs of the people within that immediate area have been adequately provided for. 2. The proposed park site is immediately adjacent to the boundary line of the city of Huntington Beach and the city of Westminster. 3. The Quarter Section of land immediately to the cast of this proposed site (within the city of Westminster) is Zoned M2. 4. The Quarter Section of land immediately to the southeast is the Goldenwest Junior College site.
