CITY OF - HUNTINGTON BEACH CITY COUNCIL COMMUNICATION L',gD.qD Honorable Mayor Grace Winchell Ralph Bauer, City Council Member 0-6 September 13, 1993 FORMATION OF A TREE FOUNDATION Over the many years I have traveled I have found that cities with beautiful trees have always left me with fond memories and made a dramatic impact on me. I should like to improve the tree program in Huntington Beach. To this end, I think we should take an idea used in other cities by funding an organization which, 1) raises money to plant trees and, 2) becomes advisory to the city on what trees to plant, where to plant them, and when to plant them. I recognize that maintenance costs may go up, on the other hand there may be some efficiencies which could also save money It occurs to me that we have a number of areas in the city which could receive an "ugliness of the year award," but whose appearance could be improved by planting trees. These areas include PCH in front of the Edison Plant, the inland side of PCH north of Golden West, and many parts of Beach Blvd. I'll bring this up at a Council meeting and circulate this request to various individual citizens for their response RB:paj 15/Trees
