Funding Source: N/A Recommended Action: Motion to: Authorize the Mayor and City Clerk to approve and execute the Grant of Easement to Southern California Edison. Alternative Action(s): Do not approve the Grant of Easement to Southern California Edison. REQUEST FOR CITY COUNCIL ACTION MEETING DATE: 1/5/2009 DEPARTMENT ID NUMBER: ED 09-02 Analysis: On November 19, 2007, the City Council authorized the execution of a contract for the construction of the Newland Street Improvement Project, which included the undergrounding of the Southern California Edison (SCE) power lines along Newland Street. City Council also authorized the Director of Public Works to enter into the Agreement for the Replacement of Overhead with Underground Electrical Facilities with SCE. To complete the undergrounding of the electrical facilities, SCE must own and maintain an underground vault. The location of the vault is situated near the southwest corner of the City's Beach Maintenance Facility as shown on the attached Grant of Easement Deed (Attachment #1) requested by SCE. The Public Works Department has reviewed and approved the size and location of the SCE easement and recommends City Council approval. Strategic Plan Goal: 1-1 — Improve the City's plan for funding and completing infrastructure needs, and develop strategies for resolving crucial infrastructure problems to preserve the physical foundation of the community and enable the community's value to grow.
