Resolution No. 96-32 - Street Renaming Request - Clay Avenue
Council/Agency Meeting Held: Deferred/Continued to: Xpproved U Conditionally Approved 0 Denied City Clerk's Signature Council Meeting Date: 04/95196 Department ID Number: FD 96-003 REQUEST FOR COUNCIL ACTION SUBMITTED TO: HONORABLE MAYOR AND CITY COUNCIL MEMBERS SUBMITTED BY: MICHAEL T. UBERUAGA, City Administ r PREPARED BY: MICHAEL P. DOLDER, Fire Chief SUBJECT: STREET RENAMING REQUEST Statement of Issue, Funding Source,Recommended Action, Alternative Action, Analysis, Environmental Status, Attachment(s) Statement of Issue: The applicant, PLC, has requested approval by the City to rename Clay Avenue to Summit Drive, from Goldenwest Street west to Seapoint Street. The request to change the street name is consistent and more compatible with the area and future development. Currently, there are no residential or commercial units addressed on Clay Avenue. Therefore, no one is impacted. This proposal has been reviewed and approved by Public Works Traffic Division. Funding Source: PLC has agreed to fund all associated costs including: permits and fees; replacing all existing post mounted street signs; and, existing illuminated street signs on Goldenwest Street and Clay Avenue. Recommended Action: Adopt Resolution No.'76.3 changing Clay Avenue to Summit Drive from Goldenwest Street west to Seapoint Street adjacent to Tentative Tract#14700. Alternative Action(s): 1) Retain original street name; 2) Ask developer to submit alternative street names for consideration. Analysis: PLC will be the developer of the new track of homes west of Goldenwest Street, south of Garfield Avenue, Tentative Tract#14700. Currently, PLC has not built any homes on Clay Avenue and homeowners would not be impacted by the name change. Clay Avenue will extend from Goldenwest Street, west to Seapoint Street and will be a main access street into this project. PLC and City staff recommend the change and agree that the name Summit Drive would be more appropriate because it will begin at the highest point in the City. This change will not effect Clay Avenue from Beach Boulevard west to Stewart Street. Environmental Status: None.
