DOLDER, Fire Chief SUBJECT: STREET RENAMING REQUEST Statement of Issua,Funding Source,Recommended Action, Alternative Action, Analysis, Environmental Status, Attachment(s) Statement of Issue: The applicant, PLC Land Company, has request the City to rename Bel Aire Lane, tract number 14700, to Peninsula Lane and Edwards Street to Peninsula Lane from Summit Drive to Garfield Avenue (attachment 2) . There are no residential or commercial units addressed on these streets, therefore, no one is impacted. This proposal has been reviewed and approved by the Public Works Department. Funding Source: PLC has agreed to fund all associated costs required to change these street names. Recommended Action: Adopt Resolution Number (attachment 1) changing Bel Aire Lane to Peninsula Lane and Edwards Street to Peninsula Lane from Garfield Avenue to Summit Drive. Alternative Action(s): 1) Retain the currently recorded street names. 2) Ask developer to submit alternative street names for consideration. Analysis: The previous developer anticipated constructing 389 residential lots within Tract 14700 as two projects, Bel Aire and Hillcrest. The main access street was proposed to be named Bel Aire. PLC, the current developer, plans to create four (4) neighborhoods called Bel Aire, Hillcrest, Riviera and Brentwood. These and other properties south of Garfield Avenue between Seapoint and Goldenwest Streets are collectively being marketed within an area designated as the Peninsula. PLC is proposing to change the name of the main entry road off Garfield Avenue to Peninsula Lane to accommodate this theme. PLC and City staff recommend the change and agree that the name Peninsula Lane would be more appropriate for the development. The Huntington Beach Fire Department has approved this recommended name change and; This change is in keeping with the city's Master Street Designation Plan, NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Huntington Beach does hereby change the street name of Bel Aire Lane to Peninsula Lane. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Huntington Beach does hereby change the street name of Edwards Street from Garfield Avenue to Summit Drive to Peninsula Lane. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Clerk, pursuant to Govemment Code Section 34092, is directed to forward a copy of this resolution to the Board of Supervisors of Orange County, California.
